I Recently Asked Myself This Question. If I Could Steal The Hip Action From Anyone Living Or Dead, Whose Hip Action Would I Nab? In The End, I Went With Jack Nicklaus. But Bobby Jones, Sam Snead, Payne Stewart, Arnold Palmer, and Greg Norman Were All A Close Second.
I added the Nicklaus Hip Preset Power Drill to the Golf Practice Planner today because “hip-action” dominated my dreams last night.
Weird, I know.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t a naughty dream filled with lots of sexual hip-action. It was a dream filled with an image of the Jack Nicklaus swing over there on the left.
I mean, come on, how good is that hip action.
When I awoke the next morning I did my due diligence and searched for hip-action practice drills.
And I found one that you’re gonna love!
The Nicklaus Hip Preset Power Drill is a really simple way to increase your distance. Great players like Jack Nicklaus, Bobby Jones, Sam Snead, Payne Stewart, Arnold Palmer, and Greg Norman all believed it was important to turn their hips freely in the golf swing. By the end of this drill, you too will turn your hips more freely in the golf swing.

Step 2: Preset Your Hips
Set up to the ball with your hips turned (preset) as if you’ve completed your backswing. As a warm-up before hitting balls do your backswing with the hips pre-set and pause at the top. Do this several times. When you’re ready to hit a ball, do the pre-set of the hips and hit a shot without pausing at the top.
Step 3: Keep Score
Do 10 swings. Give yourself one point each time you perform the drill correctly by pre-setting your hips at the address position.
