Overview
This drill is to understand the importance of keeping the ball below the hole because it’s easier to putt and easier to read putts from “below the hole”. You’ll discover the range of reads between three and ten feet from two locations around a hole. It will be a real eye-opener.
You may have heard the expression, “keep the ball below the hole“, but you may not have fully appreciated why this is a mantra of all self-respecting pros.

Watch the video.
Step 2: Below The Hole (0 Degrees)
Put a tee at 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 feet directly below the hole at zero degrees (no break). Hit a putt from each tee area. Keep score of how many of the eight putts that you hole (e.g. 6 out 8).
Step 3: Side Of The Hole (90 Degrees)
Put a tee at 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 feet to the side of the hole at 90 degrees (most break). Hit a putt from each tee area. Keep score of how many of the eight putts that you hole (e.g. 4 out 8).
Step 4: Keep Score
Keep score. The maximum score is 16 (e.g. 6 out of 8 for 0-degrees putts and 4 out of 8 for 90-degree putts).
