What If You Had 1 Drill To Improve Your Impact Position…Which Instantly Made Up For The 27 Backswing And Downswing Errors That You Have? And What If That Drill Could Be Done In 60 Seconds From The Comfort Of Your Own Home?

clap hands impact practice drill I added the Clap Hand Impact Bag Drill to the Golf Practice Planner today because I love simple drills that don’t require a golf club, a ball, or the need to be on a golf course.

All you need are your hands!

The Clap Hand Impact Drill is one that Sir Henry Cotton would approve of. It will help you feel the correct transition and impact position in the golf swing. Talk to any self-respecting teaching pro and they’ll say that “impact” is the most important part of the game.

Think Jim Furyk.

He’s supposedly got the ugliest swing in golf, but he’s one of the best players that has ever lived and has shot a 58, which is the lowest score in professional golf. He has a great impact position, and that’s all the matters to the golf ball.

A good impact position makes up for any amount of supposed swing errors on the backswing and downswing!

Read these wise words from Gary McCord, a wise-cracking one-liner machine for CBS Sports:

There are two types of people out there (PGA Tour). Guys that hit shots – the great shot makers. And then there are the guys that can play – the scorers. And the scorers are going to beat those guys all the time.” – Gary McCord

All scorers understand the importance of impact!

If you ever catch yourself thinking why you bother doing practice drills, that surely there’s something better to be doing, consider this quote from Harry Vardon.

“For this game you need, above all things, to be in a tranquil frame of mind.” – Harry Vardon

I believe that each time we practice a drill, it’s like a meditation that turns a chaotic mind into a tranquil one. You might not go to a Yoga class, but if you step onto the practice ground, and practice with a purpose by following a golf practice drill, that’s meditation.

When the mind is able to focus on one thing (e.g. one drill), that’s meditation. And the really good news is that your meditation is outside in nature doing something you love!

Before you start the drill, I’ll leave you with a memorable quote from the man who inspired this drill…

“Imagine the ball has little legs, and chop them off.” – Sir Henry Cotton
