Step 2. Reach overhead, then stretch one arm

Fingers Stretch Golf Warmup Drill
Stand tall and gently link the fingers for the starting reach.

Stand with your feet comfortably apart. Link your fingers lightly and prepare to raise your hands.

Fingers Stretch Golf Warmup Drill
Raise the linked hands only as far overhead as feels comfortable.

Reach your arms upwards without forcing the shoulders or arching your lower back. Keep your head upright and breathe comfortably. Release the fingers when ready to move into the triceps stretch.

triceps stretch golf warmup
Bend one elbow and rest the opposite hand lightly on that elbow.

With one upper arm raised, bend that elbow so the hand moves towards your upper back. Place the other hand lightly on the raised elbow. Find a mild stretch at the back of the upper arm without pulling hard on the elbow.

Pause briefly, then release the supporting hand and lower the arm slowly. Repeat on the other side. The overhead reach is preparation; the stretch-and-release movement is what you count in Step 3.

What you noticeWhat to try
Arching the lower backReduce the reach and return to a comfortable upright stance.
The chin drops forwardsKeep the head upright and ease the arm position.
Pulling hard on the elbowLighten the supporting hand and make the stretch smaller.

Keep the stretch mild and avoid bouncing. Stop if the movement causes pain or the overhead position is uncomfortable.

Step 3. Complete your round

Branded stick figure in a blue polo beside eighteen ticked practice boxes. One repetition. One tick.

What to do

Complete 18 gentle stretch-and-release repetitions: nine per arm. One repetition is moving into a comfortable triceps stretch, pausing briefly, then releasing and lowering the arm.

Do three repetitions on one arm, then three on the other. Repeat that sequence three times, resting between sets if needed. You do not need a deeper stretch or a long hold to earn a tick.

First nine: Follow the three-per-arm sequence for nine stretches and releases: three on one arm, three on the other, then three on the first. Second nine: Continue with three on the other arm, three on the first, then three on the other. Each arm totals nine; lower the arms to rest as needed.

George’s Conclusion

George, scratch golfer and mad inventor of the Golf Practice Made Fun App, holding a phone at the range.

I prefer a stretch I can settle into and release without forcing it. Keep the head upright, use a light supporting hand and give each arm the same number of easy repetitions.
